The Parts of a Butterfly

Some descriptive terms for parts of the wing. In addition the individual
veins and spaces are given code numbers, e.g. s1, v2 etc. The regions to the left however should be enough for a reasonable description of the markings of a particular species. |

A butterflies wings are made up of thousands of tiny scales which refract
the light creating beautiful colours and patterns. Pictured is a Swallowtail species, Papilio cresphontes. |
