Tessellated skipper - Muschampia tessellum
![]() |
Family: Hesperiidae. Flight Time: April-August. Size: 32-36mm Altitude: 0-1100m |
There were three or four of theses skippers around a ford across a little stream, near to where we were staying in Turunc, SW Turkey. I think this picture goes to show that expensive equipment is not necessarily everything. The standard lens with the camera, 28-80mm, very ordinary print film and no flashes has produced a good size image of a small butterfly. There are a few other similar species in Europe, the Muschampia species are perhaps easier than the Pyrgus ones, mainly 'cause there are less of them.
